4 Ways to Restore the Damage of Dieting
Most people assume the only way to lose weight is to follow a diet plan and exercise. While this is partially true, I’m here to tell you that intense dieting is actually damaging to your body. Here at Devo Fit, I am a holistic non-diet coach who focuses on your relationship with food, and I encourage intuitive eating, improved metabolism, and non-diet lifestyles.
No matter what kind of diet plan you are following, you are essentially depriving your body of certain foods to make sure you stay within the requirements of your diet. By choosing intuitive eating, you aren’t cutting anything out, you are just being more intuitive of what you put into your body – this means more whole foods, better ingredients, and natural supplements.
If you’ve been following a diet and you think it’s been preventing your body from losing weight and actually causing you to gain weight, here are some ways to restore the damage…
#1 Include more whole foods
To restore your body after a harsh diet, I always recommend including more whole foods into your diet – things like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, meat, fish, and eggs. These foods will give your body all the nutrients its needs to remain healthy and happy. Once you started to include more whole foods, you’ll notice some amazing things in your body – you’ll notice more regular bowel movements, better skin, less joint or muscle pain, and better digestion.
#2 Train properly
If you’re trying to reverse the damage of dieting, don’t overload your body with workouts. After ending a diet, your metabolism is all thrown off, and you could end up sicker and unhealthy if you train too hard. Do lower impact workouts like walking so your body can adjust to the change in food intake then slowly induce resistance training.
#3 Prioritize self-care
One thing you can do to make sure you restore the damage of dieting is to prioritize your self-care. We know this sounds weird, but whether it be giving yourself a home spa day, or treating yourself to some ice cream, making sure your mental health is good is a great way to reverse the damage you experienced from a diet.
#4 Get enough sleep
When your body is in recovery mode or dealing with a major change, you need to make sure you sleep enough. When you’re sleeping, your body is in full-reboot mode and working to fix any damage you experienced that day. When you stop a diet, your body goes through a lot and it needs a lot more time to recover, that’s why you need to make sure you are getting enough sleep.
No matter what your situation is, dieting isn’t always the best solution for losing weight. In fact, your diet can actually cause you to gain weight due to you not giving your body the right amount of nutrition it needs. I focus on intuitive eating rather than cutting out specific types of macros.
